I arrived at the concert feeling less than enthused. My previous experience with gigs at the Bowl had been limited to phoning to tell them that the noise was making my kitchen island veer from side to side (my flat is close by).
But to my joy, he did play all those songs from the 90s – from before the mother-version of me – and maybe that was part of it. I found myself surging to the front, joining in with the singing, gazing up at Richard as if he were … an idol. My photos from the gig are a blur of white light with a bucket hat and a pair of sunglasses somewhere in the middle of it. I left the concert feeling elated.
I started to feel happy. And sexy. I realised that in order to re-boot my sex life, I did have to jump-start my libido again, as it were – but not necessarily with medication. This was spiritual. From deep in my soul.
I had fallen in love with Richard Ashcroft.

Talk about an iconic song! Just had to include this once I heard this on the radio
The theme song Maybe Tomorrow from Cancon favourite The Littlest Hobo just got a new version as a result of a cover by Tom Green and Steven Page.
In the official music video for the song, Page arrives at Green’s cabin and they figure out the guitar chords while sitting near a crackling wood stove. In the background, the pair is watched by Green’s dog, Charley, as they begin to sing.
The video also includes footage of Charley running through the snow, charging through a field and riding in a truck.

Earlier this month, Canadian collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg revealed plans to reboot The Littlest Hobo as a live-action scripted show for Crave.
The original series follows a German shepherd named Hobo, who helps people in need ranging from an elderly recluse, to a ballerina, and more. It originally aired in the 1960s, then was rebooted on CTV from 1979 to 1985, which is where the famous theme song, written by Terry Bush and John Crossen, comes from.

It’s kind of mind-bending,” says 69-year old Steven Hall. For the last three years, the Scottish musician has been living with his lawyer husband a few hours south of Chicago, driving an Uber for some additional income. Now, suddenly, he is being lauded by critics for his double LP My Skyscraper, released last month under the name Nirosta Steel.

Read the whole article, pretty amazing the collection of music over the decades that produced the album. AND Pitchfork loves it.
Now My Skyscraper seems poised to admit Hall into that rarified pantheon of historically salvaged artists whose time has belatedly arrived.
Hall was a close friend of Arthur Russell, we played a song by him a few weeks ago (Wonder Boy).
Russell, he says, was one of the few people who “just couldn’t help creating all the time, and it was hardly a conscious thing. His genius was totally organic and came from his Buddhist awakening. People credit Ginsberg with bringing Buddhism to the west, but Arthur was, in some ways, teaching Allen.”
The song we are playing this week was co-written by Arthur Russell.

As for finding renewed success at such a late stage in his career, Hall remains unfazed. “I really admire older musicians, like Madonna, who’s two years younger than me, or Mick Jagger, who’s a lot older,” he says. “Certain musicians just keep finding ways to approach it. There’s an authenticity in terms of the process, because everyone was just doing it because they wanted to. And that’s what my music is like, too.”

The video takes inspiration from Paul Simon’s music video “You Can Call Me Al,” featuring Chevy Chase

Walton Goggins is “Going Shopping” with the Strokes in their new video for the band’s lead single for their forthcoming album, Reality Awaits.
Taking direct inspiration from Paul Simon’s music video “You Can Call Me Al,” featuring Chevy Chase in 1986, Goggins lip-syncs next to frontman Julian Casablancas as various craziness plays out alongside the two, nonchalant men.
Landing Goggins for the cameo was a long shot, the band noted in a statement, but the White Lotus and Righteous Gemstones star readily agreed. In May, they traveled to the island of Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands to film the video, which was directed by Johann Rashid.
Goggins gushed over the video, writing on Instagram that he’d “never had the audacity to put something like this on my bucket list” and hailed the forthcoming album as “gatdamn special.”
“Going Shopping” is the lead single off the Strokes’ upcoming album, Reality Awaits, set for release on July 24. It’s the group’s first album since 2020’s The New Abnormal as they hit the road this summer with a nationwide tour.
